How much can you spend per day for the rest of the month? Enter three numbers. Nothing you type leaves this page.
Per day, rest of the month
$43.75
What’s left ÷ days left, today included.
Left today, with carry-over
$100
Daily allowance $40
My Money’s rule: monthly ÷ 30 a day; unspent money carries over (up to five days’ worth); overspending comes out of the following days. Assumes you started on day 1.
Two ways to answer the question
Even split answers: how do I stretch what’s left to the end of the month? Useful when you start paying attention mid-month and want to know how much room is left.
Daily allowance with carry-over answers: how much can I spend today? Each day adds one allowance, unspent money stays with you, and overspending is made up on later days, so one big day doesn’t wreck the whole month.
- Even split
(monthly budget − spent) ÷ (days in month − today’s date + 1)- Daily allowance
monthly budget ÷ 30, rounded- Left today
min(daily allowance × day − spent before today, 5 × daily allowance)
Example: $1,200 a month, day 15, $500 spent over the first 14 days. Even split: (1,200 − 500) ÷ 16 = $43.75 a day. Daily allowance with carry-over: $40 a day, so today you have 40 × 15 − 500 = $100 (the $60 you saved plus today’s $40), below the five-day cap of $200.
FAQ
How do I work out how much I can spend per day?
Take what’s left of your monthly spending money and divide it by the days left in the month, counting today. With $1,200 a month, $500 already spent and today being day 15 of 30: (1,200 − 500) ÷ 16 = $43.75 a day.
What’s the difference between the two results?
The first spreads what’s left evenly over the remaining days. The second is an allowance that builds up: each day adds monthly ÷ 30, unspent money carries over (up to five days’ worth in My Money), and overspending is taken from the following days.
Why divide by 30 instead of the days in the month?
A fixed 30 keeps the daily amount the same every month, whether it has 28 or 31 days. My Money works this way too; it has no monthly reset, so the allowance simply keeps building day by day from the day you set your budget.
Is anything I type saved or sent?
No. The calculator runs in your browser and doesn’t send or store anything.
